UQ4: intimacy is a print publication of a limited edition of 200 copies. It gathers the voices of artists, photographers and writers to explore intimacy today.
The internet drastically changes the way we navigate relationships and shifts our perception of intimacy with the self and others. We now create intimacy in a very different way. Each contributor approached the topic using their language from words to photographs to illustrations to share their own understanding of intimacy to the page. The publication explores private spaces vs public spheres, relationships from friendships to family to romance as well as intimacy within yourself. As you flip through the publication the essays, poems, and artworks create an ongoing conversation with each other and the reader. Writing and reading are proposed as a collaboration, intrinsically connecting one stranger to another through an imaginary exchange.
From the beginning, it was important to witness with how people experienced and reacted to different versions of intimacy in real time. So before the publication there was an event at Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre where practitioners explored the concept of intimacy through workshops and talks. The outcomes and different approaches were also offered in the publication as documentation and as a tool. The launch of the publication took place at Pages of Hackney where publication contributors gave poetry readings, talks and Q&A.
